More trail features! This time, we build a bridge to connect the trail over a gully at Maple Hill.
With some more volunteer hours, we will have a ridable, sustainable 1.4 mile loop! But remember, even when the initial loop is complete, riding will only available on SWMMBA sponsored rides to members and donors.
So if you want a taste of what's going to be an iconic, flowy West Michigan trail... it's time to become a SWMMBA member or Maple Hill Trail donor.

Maple Hill Trail Update!
All of our hard work is finally paying off! We are thrilled to announce that initial machine construction on a section of the Maple Hill Trail was completed last week by Spectrum Trail Design. Spectrum’s Alex Stewart and crew have been at Markin Glen Park for the last 2 weeks and constructed about 1.3 miles of fantastic trail for us. He’s since moved on to another project and we’ll look for his return in the fall.

The opportunity to ride and be a part of the Maple Hill Trail will soon come, but right now we NEED YOUR PATIENCE AND YOUR HELP because there’s still a lot to accomplish. What comes next? Watch for some future trail work days – we need volunteers to help us complete the finishing work on this first 1.3-mile section. We’ll also have a couple of weekday “5:01” trail days to mix things up and provide other opportunities to contribute.
It is important that everyone understands THE TRAIL IS NOT YET OPEN TO RIDE. The Kalamazoo County Parks Department Staff will be monitoring the trail to make sure everybody complies with this, so don’t be THAT guy or girl who ruins it for everybody else.
Riding the trail right now will only jeopardize what we’ve worked so hard to accomplish to get us to this point. In the meantime, we are working with the Parks Department to schedule some special chapter-sponsored trail preview rides that will be open to our Maple Hill Trail Corporate and Individual Sponsors and current SWMMBA chapter members. If you don’t fall under one of those categories, take action now to make sure you do when the time comes to ride! Follow the links below to become a Maple Hill Trail Sponsor and/or SWMMBA chapter member.

Spectrum Trail Design has reaffirmed their commitment to building the Maple Hill Trail, and the process of determining scheduling to begin trail construction is underway!
We can't thank, Maple Hill Auto Group and the additional corporate and community sponsors enough for their continued support throughout this process, We also want to thank our fellow mountain biking community members, especially our SWMMBA members for their patience during this next phase. If you or someone you know is eager to help and NOT a SWMMBA member, it's not too late to sign up. Remember, a portion of your membership goes back to your local trails!
Stay tuned for upcoming trail days and project announcements!
In the meantime, check out Spectrum Trail Designs website and Facebook page!

Over the last several months, the SWMMBA Chapter of IMBA has been hard at work, identifying and securing a Title Sponsor for a new mountain bike trail in Kalamazoo. At this time, we are thrilled to announce that a 25 year Title Sponsorship agreement has been reached between Jim VandenBerg of Maple Hill Auto Group, Kalamazoo County Parks and Recreation, and SWMMBA. The future site of the Maple Hill Trail will be within Markin Glen County Park, located at 5300 N. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
SWMMBA is honored to be a part of Jim VandenBerg’s continued commitment and personal mission to make Kalamazoo an amazing place to visit, live, and raise children. His support of the new Maple Hill Trail gives SWMMBA the opportunity to expand exciting recreational opportunities for the community at Markin Glen Park while preserving them for years to come. His 25 year commitment is one that will help drive the economic growth of local businesses in downtown Kalamazoo and beyond, while also strengthening and improving quality of life within our community.
As a result of this significant sponsorship milestone and additional corporate and community sponsorship contributions, SWMMBA is now eagerly pursuing the next phase of trail development - selecting a professional trail building team to collaborate with for the construction of the Maple Hill Trail.
